The R-Link tablet will become a standard feature on Renault’s new ZOE and Clio models, and will be made an optional feature on all upcoming Renault vehicles in the near future.

Renault seems to have some healthy envy of the market for tablets because it has decided to create a similar device to its range of vehicles. R-Link is a 7-inch device with touch interface that the French marque will begin to integrate into their cars in 2012, and will offer the driver a “trip computer” very advanced which will control a large number of functions with both hands from the touch screen or via a steering wheel mounted control, such as by voice command, which is quite sensible since it is not too wise to look away from the road or hands off the wheel. Renault system that reminds the Life Touch Toyota introduced in October and can integrate a smartphone in the car to use all its functions.

In this respect, the Renault dash tablet seems much more complete, because although it can synchronize with a smartphone, features a fairly complete operating system itself, with access not only to basic functions such as multimedia entertainment, GPS navigation through TomTom HD Traffic or call functions, but also linked with the computer functions of the vehicle that will provide detailed information on most of the details of the progress and operation of the vehicle, such as fuel and electricity, adding even network access to benefit various cloud services such as storage, “social life” or downloading of applications, there is always the possibility of extending the functions of the device.

Renault is looking for developers to create rich catalog of applications before it begins to integrate its range of vehicles, at which time it is expected that at least 50 different apps for download. To begin, the next year the brand R-Link add this as an option to its 2012 Clio models and the new Zoe, Renault’s commitment to electric cars, but has not yet specified what will be its price. Another detail is still unknown whether the “tablet” is removable and may be used outside the vehicle, or be fully integrated into the dashboard, which although desirable, does not seem too likely.
